Several years ago, Monte discovered from his colleague Brian that patent data was difficult to extract from the USPTO website; he devised some computer code to automatically extract the data and encode them into a database. CRIE organizes data for academics to conduct better research in their endeavors and thereby accomplish their goals. CRIE seeks to make data available in both contiguous and relational form to reach the needs of its users. The primary resource of CRIE is the U.S. Patent Data. To search the database for patents there are two options: learning the syntax for manual searches, or calling for the search service. Our search service is much more effective at finding relevant patent data.
