Several years ago, Monte discovered from his colleague Brian that patent data was difficult to extract from the USPTO website; he devised some computer code to automatically extract the data and encode them into a database. Thus CRIE was born. CRIE strives to organize patent data in a relational form for researchers to spend their time to advance public thought. Monte discovered the difficulty of collecting patent data through a fellow PhD student and wanted to make the process easier for students in the future. He achieved this by harvesting patent data with the help of Len Jessup, who stored objects that Monte collected into database form. |
