In my view, the Christian religion is the most important and one of the first things in which all children, under a free government ought to be instructed... 1. According to law; in conformity with law; as a legal standard or test; a legal procedure.

2. Lawful; permitted by law; as a legal trade. Anything is legal which the laws do not forbid.

3. According to the law of works, as distinguished from free grace; or resting on works for salvation.

4. Pertaining to law; created by law.

The exception must be confined to legal crimes.

So we use the phrase, criminal law.

* As a note, I have purchased each of these products. In fact, as we have been developing the Project:: 1828 Reprint, I have purchased several of the bulky hard-cover dictionaries. My opinion is that the 2000-page hard-cover edition is the only good viable solution at this time. The compact edition was a bit disappointing and the CD-ROM as well.
